Overview

Why Golden Nugget Loquat is worth planting

Golden Nugget Loquat from Green Sprout Seedlings is a certified grafted seedling bred to fruit early, yield heavily and resist common diseases. Early bearing, low-input, popular at farm gates. At just KSh 200 per seedling, this is one of the most reliable ways to turn your land into a long-term income asset.

Why farmers love this variety

  • Early bearing, low-input, popular at farm gates.
  • Kenya imports most of its apples, pears and plums — strong import-substitution demand
  • Premium supermarket pricing for locally grown stone fruit
  • Compact spacing means high tree count and revenue per acre
  • Wambugu apple has unlocked lowland apple farming across Kenya
  • Spaced at 3m × 4m (≈ 330 trees / acre) for maximum yield per acre

Expected yield & profit potential

Long-term income from a single planting

A mature tree produces 80 – 150kg of fruit per year. At 330 trees per acre, farmers earn KSh 400,000 – 900,000 per acre annually supplying supermarkets and farm-gate buyers who pay a premium for locally grown stone and pome fruit.

Planting & care tips

  • Head back at 80cm at planting to force a strong scaffold.
  • Thin fruit to one per 15 – 20cm of branch to maximise size and pricing.
  • Defoliate or hand-strip leaves to break dormancy in warmer zones.
  • Net against birds as fruit colours — losses can hit 30% otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

Where in Kenya can I grow Golden Nugget Loquat?+

Golden Nugget Loquat performs best in Nyeri, Nyandarua, Meru, Nandi and similar zones at 1,700 – 2,400m above sea level (lower for wambugu apple). If you're unsure about your area, send us your location on WhatsApp and we'll confirm suitability before you order.

How long before my Golden Nugget Loquat seedling starts fruiting?+

Because it is grafted from a proven mother tree, expect 2–3 years to first commercial harvest. Grafted seedlings fruit much earlier than seed-grown trees and stay true to variety.

How often should I water a young Golden Nugget Loquat seedling?+

Water deeply twice a week for the first three months, then once a week through the first dry season. Mulch heavily around the base to lock in moisture and reduce watering needs.

Do I need more than one tree for pollination?+

Golden Nugget Loquat produces well as a single tree, but planting 2 or more nearby improves fruit set and total yield. Most of our customers plant a block for better economics and easier management.

Do you deliver Golden Nugget Loquat seedlings countrywide?+

Yes — Green Sprout Seedlings delivers nationwide via courier and direct transport. Share your order quantity and location on WhatsApp and we'll quote delivery before you pay.
